Jake Howard of Lavon, Texas just made history at The 5th Annual Lone Star Summer Shootout. Howard was the first Lone Star Summer Shootout winner to ever win in the No Box class and continue on to win in the main event.
Howard defeated Cole Herbold of Seguin, Texas for the Lucas Oil Exclusive 32 No Box Title and then rolled his winning momentum in the main event, Free Race Friday presented by SDPC Raceshop and Chevrolet Performance. Howard then defeated Chris Dollar making him the first racer in Lone Star Summer Shootout history to claim both titles in the same day. Howard will collect $850 for his Lucas Oil Exclusive 32 No Box win and $4,000 for his SDPC Raceshop Free Race Friday win. Racepak also presented Howard with a SPORTSMAN edition for his accomplishments. Increased payout for this year’s event is thanks to CBS ArcSafe, Viels Motorsports, and Lopez Motorsports.
Howard admits that luck was on his side today. During third round of competition his chassis broke and required help from fellow racers, Dale, Josh, and Jacob Burrow. The Burrows recently started their own welding and fabrication business and were able to help Howard get back into competition. Howard had a long list of people to thank during his winner’s interview and it is obvious the racers appreciate him, too. Larry Eidson says, “[He’s a] stand up guy. At 6 cars my battery went dead [and he] offered to wait until I got it charged up.” Howard patiently waited for his wife, Michelle, to arrive so she could be present for this memorable winner circle photo. Thanks to Strange Engineering, there will be a $300 bounty out tomorrow for the racer who defeats Howard in the car he ran in competition today.
