The 4th Annual Lone Star Summer Shootout presented by Scoggin Dickey Raceshop and Chevrolet Performance kicked off the weekend with an $11,000 Main Event Friday at the Texas Motorplex. Friday's Main Event was combined with Saturday's Main Event due weather threatening to shorten the weekend.
Even with the schedule change and racing beginning on Friday morning, this year's race saw over 200 race cars run down the track for the Tom Thorp Transports/Scoggin Dickey Raceshop $11,000 race.
Weather was great for Friday during the day and after multiple rounds of eliminations there were seven drivers left. Though Bryson Parks and Johnny "Bracket Racer" Ezell had been defeated during the round of 8 they were able to take home the "Elite 8" bonus cash thanks to Hughes Performance.
Among the four drivers remaining, Wayne Gibson was able to defeat Robby Lopez and Randell Reid took the victory over Steve Harvey locking in their spots in the final round. This left two Texas racers ready battle it out for the $11,000 prize, plus contingency bonuses.
At the end of the evening Randell Reid took the victory over Wayne Gibson claiming the big $11,000 Winner's check! Both drivers had a tough field to work their way through and did an impressive job at Friday's Tom Thorp Transports/SDPC Raceshop $11,000 race. The payout was also increased thanks to CBS ArcSafe and the winner also received a Sportsman Data Logger thanks to Racepak.
Reid was also able to take some bonus cash from American Race Cars, because his dragster was the "Last American Racecar" standing in Friday's Main Event.
