Tom Thorp Transport Saturday kicked off with the famous K&N Million Dollar Time Trial. Aaron Gee took home The Spring Fling Million entries and travel money with a .003 package.
After time runs, The Drag Racers Benevolent Fund Raffle was broadcast live over MotorManiaTV where several participants from across the country won prizes to support a great charitable cause. Grand prize winners were Calvin Hormes and Gary Emmons who were winners of the 2018 Performax 30’ Tag Trailer and the SDPC Raceshop 615 SR20 Engine. Entries for this raffle began several months ago and 450 participants from across the United States watched their names go into the shuffler today for a chance to win.
Jake Howard continued his winning streak, winning The Lucas Oil Exclusive 32 No Box class for the second day in a row and denying his fellow no box competitors the chance to earn The Strange $300 Bounty. Taryn Greene ended his fairy tale story in the quarter finals of The Tom Thorp Transport Saturday Main Event when Jake Howard was disqualified with a red light. Taryn was awarded The Strange Engineering Bounty Award and collected her $300 for taking out Howard. Although Howard was eliminated from competition he did it in a true winner’s fashion by exiting the program during Hughes Converters Elite 8 Bonus round were an additional $1,000 was added to the purse and split among all three racers who were eliminated during that round (Jake Howard, Preston (Peeps) Pennington, and Jimmy Wenger).
Stephen Hughes defeated Courtland Carter in The Tom Thorp Transports Saturday Main Event and completed an interview that can be view on The Lone Star Summer Shootout Facebook Page as well as on LoneStarBracketRace.com.
There were two additional Bonus Races on Saturday including The Pep Boys Lucky 8 Shootout and The Last Chance Race presented by SDPC Raceshop and Chevrolet Performance. The Pep Boys Lucky 8 Shootout was a compilation of 8 randomly selected racers from today’s program who competed in a free race presented by Pep Boys with added money to the purse from Dixie House Café. Curt Harvey, sponsored by Rafter P Construction, defeated Tripp West for The Inagural Pep Boys Lucky 8 Title. Nick Smith took the win over Mike Bjorum in The Last Chance Race presented by SDPC Raceshop and Chevrolet Performance.
The 5th Annual event is the first to award racers with even more ways to win with best losing packages presented in rounds one through six in Tom Thorp Transport Saturday Super Pro class and rounds one through four in the Lucas Oil Exclusive 32 class. Winners are as follows:
