Gates Open for The 5th Annual Lone Star Summer Shootout and 2018 Practice Tree Race presented by Port-A-Tree and Farmers Insurance Agent, Matt Holmes
Gates opened Thursday at noon for The 5th Annual Lone Star Summer Shootout at The Texas Motorplex presented by SDPC Raceshop and Chevrolet Performance. Racers were able to park, socialize, and The 3rd Annual Practice Tree Race began at 6 PM.
This year’s Practice Tree Race was presented by Farmers Insurance Agent, Matt Holmes along with Port-A-Tree and paid $1,000 to the winner (Spencer Massey, Fort Worth, Texas), $400 to the runner-up (Mike Badeaux Jr., Gardendale, Texas), $150 to the semi-finalists, and $75 to competitors in the round of 8. Winner Spencer Massey was also awarded a NextGen Practice Tree from Port-A-Tree Timing Systems. The Texas Motorplex was generous enough to loan the Champions’ Club where racers could get comfortable in the beautiful air-conditioned venue and spend time with fellow racers.
Matt Holmes had a great display where he gave away several door prizes including hats, portable charging units, boombox coolers, t-shirts, popsockets for smartphones, and even had prizes for the kids like squishy balls, basketball hoops, and teddy bears. Holmes also offered a special promotion for anyone who gave their information for an insurance quote. Twelve lucky participants got to spin his wheel of prizes and several racers took home items such as JEGS Performance gift certificates, QuikTrip gift cards, Port-A-Tree pocket practice trees, Hoosier Racing Tires, K&N Filters gift certificates, Smiley’s gift certificates, and Accelerated Graphics & Designs $100 cash prize. Viels Motorsports also added an additional $100 prize for one lucky winner, Dale Burrow of Forney, Texas. The grand prize (2 Drag Racer Benevolent Fund Raffle Tickets), were awarded to Paige Hamlin of Tomball, Texas. The raffle drawing will be held live on MotorManiaTV Saturday afternoon.
